How to Adjust Valves on a Motocross Bike


Adjusting the valves on a motocross bike is an important maintenance task that should be performed regularly to ensure optimal engine performance. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to adjust the valves on a motocross bike:

1. Gather the necessary tools: You'll need a feeler gauge, a torque wrench, a socket set, and a flathead screwdriver.

2. Remove the valve cover: Locate the valve cover on your bike and remove it. This will give you access to the valves.

3. Rotate the engine: Rotate the engine to the TDC (Top Dead Center) position. This can be done by turning the engine over with a wrench on the crankshaft bolt or by using the kickstarter to rotate the engine. Consult your bike's manual for the specific procedure.

4. Measure valve clearance: Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the valve stem and the rocker arm. This should be done for both the intake and exhaust valves.

5. Adjust valve clearance: If the valve clearance is out of spec, adjust it by using a wrench to loosen the lock nut on the adjuster screw.
