How to Add a Footnote to Microsoft Word
Adding a footnote in Microsoft Word is a common way to provide additional information or cite sources in a document. Here are the steps to add a footnote in Microsoft Word:
1. Place the cursor where you want to insert the footnote in the document. 2. Click on the "References" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen. 3. Click on the "Insert Footnote" button in the "Footnotes" section of the ribbon. 4. A number will be inserted into the text where you placed the cursor, and a corresponding number will appear at the bottom of the page. 5. Type the text of the footnote in the space provided at the bottom of the page. 6. To return to the main text, click on the number in the main text or use the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + Alt + Home."
You can also customize the appearance of your footnotes by clicking on the "Footnote & Endnote" dialog box launcher in the "Footnotes" section of the ribbon. From there, you can change the numbering format, the position of the footnote on the page, and other options.
Once you've added a footnote to your document, you can add additional footnotes in the same way. The numbering will automatically update to reflect the order of the footnotes in the document.
