How to Bake Apple Crostata

Baking an apple crostata is a delicious and simple way to enjoy the flavors of fall. Here's how you can make your own apple crostata at home:

Ingredients: - 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour - 1/4 cup granulated sugar - 1/4 teaspoon salt - 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes - 2 tablespoons ice water - 2-3 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored and sliced - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar - 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg - 1 egg, beaten - 1 tablespoon coarse sugar, for sprinkling on top

Instructions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar and salt.

2. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry blender or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Add the ice water and mix until the dough comes together into a ball. Flatten the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

5. In another mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle about 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter.

7. Transfer the dough onto the prepared baking sheet.

8. Arrange the sliced apples in the center of the dough, leaving about 2 inches (5 cm) of dough around the edges.

9. Fold the edges of the dough up over the apples, crimping the edges as you go to seal any gaps.

10. Brush the edges of the dough with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

11. Bake the crostata for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

12. Allow the crostata to cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve it warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your delicious apple crostata!
