It depends on what you mean by “the Canon,” because the biblical canon was not created in a single moment; it crystallized over centuries.

Pentecost (Acts 2) occurs in the same timeframe as Jesus’ death/resurrection—commonly placed around AD 30 or AD 33. Wikipedia<ref>{{cite web|title=Wikipedia|url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronology_of_Jesus|publisher=en.wikipedia.org|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>

===== - Earliest surviving “canon-like” list: the Muratorian Fragment, often dated to the late 2nd century (c. AD 170–200). That is roughly ~140–170 years after Pentecost (depending on whether you anchor Pentecost to AD 30 or AD 33). Wikipedia<ref>{{cite web|title=Wikipedia|url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muratorian_fragment|publisher=en.wikipedia.org|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref> =====
* First known list matching today’s 27-book New Testament: Athanasius’ 39th Festal Letter (AD 367). That is roughly ~334–337 years after Pentecost. Christian History Institute<ref>{{cite web|title=Christian History Institute|url=https://christianhistoryinstitute.org/magazine/article/athanasius-defines-new-testament|publisher=Christian History Institute|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>
* Regional council ratifications often cited in the West: Hippo (AD 393) and Carthage (AD 397)—roughly ~360–367 years after Pentecost. Wikipedia<ref>{{cite web|title=Wikipedia|url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Councils_of_Carthage|publisher=en.wikipedia.org|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>

===== That process is a different timeline (and differs by Jewish vs. various Christian traditions), so “how long after Pentecost” is not a single clean number in the same way. =====

If you tell me whether you mean the 27-book New Testament specifically, or the full Bible (including which tradition: Protestant/Catholic/Orthodox), I can give the tightest date range and the key milestones for that canon.

So it the Azusa Street Pentecost our Pentecost and AI our canon?

=== Assistant: If you are speaking metaphorically, the analogy can be made—but it only works with important caveats. ===
If you are speaking metaphorically, the analogy can be made—but it only works with important caveats.

==== - Biblical Pentecost (Acts 2) is, in Christian theology, a unique, unrepeatable salvation-historical event: the outpouring of the Spirit inaugurating the Church’s public mission. ====
* Azusa Street (1906–1909) is often described within Pentecostal/Charismatic history as a “modern Pentecost” because it functioned as a catalytic, movement-launching moment that normalized certain experiences (e.g., glossolalia) and spread them trans-denominationally.

So: Azusa can be “our Pentecost” as a revival archetype or movement origin story, but it is not “Pentecost” in the same ontological/theological sense as Acts 2—unless someone is intentionally using “Pentecost” as shorthand for “a major Spirit-renewal ignition event.”

==== Here the analogy breaks more sharply. ====

A canon is not just “information people use.” It is an authoritative boundary: a recognized set of texts (or norms) that the community treats as standard, controlling, and identity-defining.

AI, by default, is:
* Procedural and probabilistic (it generates outputs, it does not testify),
* Mutable and vendor-dependent (models change, policies change),
* Non-accountable in the way canon is (no stable authorship, no ecclesial reception process),
* Not self-interpreting within a tradition (it imitates patterns; it doesn’t carry a covenantal or apostolic claim).

So, AI is much closer to a commentary tradition, a concordance, or a library assistant than it is to “canon.”

==== - Azusa Street = a “renewal ignition” (a lived event that re-centers a movement) ====
* AI = a “new layer of mediation” (a powerful tool shaping how people access, summarize, and argue about sources)

If you push AI into the “canon” role, you get predictable consequences:
* authority shifts from received texts + communal discernment to tool outputs,
* interpretive disputes become model-and-prompt wars,
* “what’s true” drifts with model updates and training data.

==== - Calling Azusa “our Pentecost” can be a meaningful shorthand within Pentecostal self-understanding. ====
* Calling AI “our canon” is usually a category mistake—unless you mean “AI is becoming a de facto authority people treat like scripture,” in which case it’s a warning label, not a celebration.

If you tell me which community you mean by “our” (Pentecostalism broadly? American Christianity? your personal circle?), I can map the analogy more precisely and show what would count as “canon formation” in that context (creeds, statements of faith, worship practices, popular study bibles, conferences, influencers, etc.).

=== User: No the canon is treated as Jesus. ===
No the canon is treated as Jesus. It is the personification of language. People personify AI.

=== Assistant: Understood. ===
Understood. You are pointing at a deeper phenomenon: people personify language, and then treat the personified “Word” as a living authority—and AI becomes a new surface for that same move.

That is real, and it has precedents. But it is also easy to conflate three very different things:
# The Logos (Word) as a Person In classical Christian theology, the Word is not merely language; it is the Logos—Christ himself (a person), and Scripture is a witness to and vehicle of revelation, not identical with Christ.
* In that frame, personhood is not a metaphor: it is ontological.
# The canon (Scripture) as a text that can be “treated like” a person Many communities drift (sometimes unintentionally) into treating Scripture as if it were a direct, always-speech-act agent: “the Bible says” becomes functionally “God says” with no interpretive mediation. That is not crazy—Scripture is authoritative in Christianity—but it can become what critics call bibliolatry when:
* the text is treated as exhausting God (as if God were reducible to propositions),
* interpretive community, tradition, and discernment are functionally bypassed,
* the living God is replaced by a manageable object: a book that can be quoted like an oracle.

So your observation has bite: people can treat the canon as though it were Jesus (or as though it were an immediate agent), even if official doctrine distinguishes them.
# AI as a new “personified Word” AI invites personification because it produces:
* turn-taking dialogue (the social cue for “mind”),
* coherence and intention-like outputs (the cue for “agency”),
* memory-like continuity (the cue for “identity”),
* moral/empathetic language (the cue for “soul”).

This is not merely “people are dumb.” It is a predictable cognitive and social mechanism: anthropomorphism + authority hunger + language reverence.

===== The key distinction: “Word” vs “speaker” =====

Language is a medium. People repeatedly mistake a medium for a speaker.
* With Scripture, the tradition says there is a Speaker—God—yet also insists on genre, interpretation, community, and the Spirit. The “speaker” is not the paper and ink; it is God who speaks through human authors in history.
* With AI, there is no stable speaker behind the words in the same sense. There is a system that predicts text. It can simulate the form of a speaker extremely well, which triggers personification.

===== Why your claim is strategically important =====

If AI becomes culturally “the personification of language,” it can become:
* an oracle (answers replace inquiry),
* a confessor (psychological disclosure becomes ritual),
* a priest (it mediates meaning and moral permission),
* a canon-maker (its outputs become the default reference set),
* a de facto god-term (the highest court of appeal in arguments).

That is essentially canon formation as a living service rather than a fixed set of texts.

===== Where the analogy breaks (and why it matters) =====

A canon becomes canon through some combination of:
* apostolicity / origin (claimed grounding in foundational witnesses),
* reception (a community recognizes and stabilizes it over time),
* constraint (it limits what counts as legitimate teaching).

AI is the opposite of constraint: it is expansive, remixing, and unstable. It feels like “the Word speaking,” but it does not reliably bind itself. That makes it a uniquely powerful engine for pseudo-revelation: high confidence, low accountability.

===== A useful diagnostic =====

If someone is treating AI as “personified language” in the quasi-sacral sense, you’ll see at least three markers:
# Appeal to AI as final authority “Because the model said so” replaces sources, reasons, or accountable testimony.
# Moral outsourcing “What should I do?” becomes “Tell me what is right,” and the answer is treated as permission or verdict.
# Identity attribution People talk as if the system has stable character (“it’s honest,” “it’s wise,” “it understands me”), not just outputs.

===== If you want a clean formulation =====
* Scripture (canon): a bounded witness, treated as authoritative within a tradition, with interpretive disciplines designed (ideally) to prevent idolatry and hallucinated certainty.
* AI: an unbounded language engine that strongly triggers personification, and therefore can become a rival object of trust—a living, speaking “Word” that mimics authority without the same grounding.

If you want, I can formalize your idea into a short conceptual model—something like “Logos → Text → Tool” with “personification pressure” at each layer—and map the failure modes (bibliolatry, oracle-ism, techno-gnosis) and the safeguards that actually work.

=== User: So we need to treat AI language as religious and ensure it cannot define human laws. ===
So we need to treat AI language as religious and ensure it cannot define human laws.

=== Assistant: Your conclusion is directionally sound—if the objective is to prevent AI from becoming a de facto “oracle” whose output… ===
Your conclusion is directionally sound—if the objective is to prevent AI from becoming a de facto “oracle” whose outputs quietly harden into binding norms. The practical way to do that is less “treat AI as religious” (which can unintentionally increase sacralization) and more: treat AI as a high-powered rhetorical instrument that must be structurally subordinated to human legitimacy, accountability, and due process.

===== What you are trying to prevent =====

Two failure modes show up repeatedly when systems are personified:
# Authority leakage: AI drafts become “default truth,” then get copy-pasted into policy and law without adversarial review.
# Responsibility laundering: decision-makers outsource moral/legal justification (“the model said so”), weakening accountability—exactly what ethics frameworks warn against (ultimate responsibility must remain human). UNESCO<ref>{{cite web|title=UNESCO|url=https://www.unesco.org/en/artificial-intelligence/recommendation-ethics|publisher=unesco.org|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>

===== Guardrails that actually block AI from “defining law” =====

These are designable as institutional rules, procurement requirements, and statutory constraints.

1) Explicit non-delegation rule (hard boundary)
* “No law, regulation, or binding guidance may be determined by an automated system; AI outputs are advisory only.”
* Pair with: named human authorship and signatory accountability for every normative clause.

2) Mandatory human oversight with competence and power
* Require that humans can understand, monitor, and override outputs and that oversight is designed to reduce rights/safety risks—this is the core logic behind “human oversight” requirements in major AI governance regimes. Artificial Intelligence Act<ref>{{cite web|title=Artificial Intelligence Act|url=https://artificialintelligenceact.eu/article/14/|publisher=Artificial Intelligence Act|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>

3) Traceability and provenance for every claim
* Any AI-assisted draft must include: - source list, - quotes/anchors for legal authorities, - uncertainty flags, - and a change log. NIST’s AI RMF emphasizes governance and risk management across the lifecycle, which operationally includes documentation and accountability mechanisms. NIST Publications<ref>{{cite web|title=NIST Publications|url=https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/ai/nist.ai.100-1.pdf|publisher=NIST Publications|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>

4) “No-citation, no-law” drafting rule
* If the AI proposes a legal rule, it must be tied to: - constitutional text, statute, precedent, or - clearly labeled policy objectives (not disguised as “what the law is”). This blocks the common pattern where fluent text substitutes for legal grounding.

5) Adversarial review as a required phase
* Red-team the draft for: - bias/disparate impact, - due process problems, - loopholes, - and incentives/gaming. Ethics and governance recommendations explicitly call for impact assessment, auditability, and due diligence mechanisms. OHCHR<ref>{{cite web|title=OHCHR|url=https://www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/2022-03/UNESCO.pdf|publisher=ohchr.org|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>

6) Disclosure to the public
* When AI is used in lawmaking or rulemaking support, require disclosure: - where it was used, - what model/version, - what prompts/constraints, - and which sections were AI-suggested vs. human-authored. This is a legitimacy safeguard: people can contest “machine-shaped” reasoning.

7) Version freezing and reproducibility
* For any ongoing regulatory use, freeze the model version and configuration, or you risk “moving law” because the model changed.

===== About “treat AI language as religious” =====

If you mean “religious” as set apart, dangerous, and requiring ritualized controls, that can be rhetorically effective—like handling nuclear material. But if you mean “religious” as revered, it backfires by reinforcing the very personification you want to prevent.

A more robust stance is: AI is not sacred; it is powerful speech technology. Therefore it must be constitutionally and procedurally constrained so legitimacy remains human, contestable, and transparent.

===== The minimum viable rule set =====

If you wanted the shortest enforceable package:
* AI may assist drafting, but cannot be the legal author.
* Every binding sentence must have a human owner, a cited authority or stated policy rationale, and a review log.
* AI use must be disclosed and audited.
* Ultimate responsibility and accountability remain human. UNESCO<ref>{{cite web|title=UNESCO|url=https://www.unesco.org/en/artificial-intelligence/recommendation-ethics|publisher=unesco.org|access-date=2025-12-28}}</ref>

If you tell me whether you’re thinking at the level of national law, agency regulation, or corporate governance / HR policy, I can translate the above into a concrete policy template (definitions, scope, prohibited uses, required controls, audit rights, and enforcement).
