Editing How to Adjust Your Seat Belt

Adjusting your seat belt is important for your safety and comfort while driving. Here are the steps to adjust your seat belt properly:

1. Sit in your seat and pull the seat belt across your body. Make sure the lap belt is positioned low across your hips, touching the tops of your thighs, and not across your stomach.

2. Buckle the seat belt and make sure it clicks into place.

3. Adjust the shoulder belt by pulling the shoulder strap away from your body until it fits snugly across your chest and shoulder.

4. Make sure the seat belt is not twisted and lays flat against your body.

5. Check that the seat belt is properly adjusted by performing the “inch” or “pinch” test. With the seat belt buckled, try to pull the shoulder belt away from your chest. It should not move more than an inch or two. Also, pinch the seat belt webbing at the shoulder and the lap belt to make sure it is snug but not too tight.

6. If your car has an adjustable shoulder belt height, adjust it so the shoulder belt is centered over your shoulder and does not rub against your neck.
