To add a shutdown button to the Windows 8.1 desktop, follow these steps: 1. Right-click on the desktop and select "New" and then "Shortcut". 2. In the "Type the location of the item" field, type "shutdown.exe /s /t 0" (without the quotes). 3. Click "Next". 4. Type a name for the shortcut (such as "Shutdown") and click "Finish". The shortcut should now be on your desktop, and you can double-click it to shut down your computer. If you want to change the icon for the shortcut: 1. Right-click on the shortcut and select "Properties". 2. Click the "Change Icon" button. 3. Select an icon you like from the list or browse to find an icon file (.ico) on your computer. 4. Click "OK" and then "Apply" to save the changes. You now have a shutdown button on your desktop in Windows 8.1.
