==== ๐ DEEP ISLAMIC ANALYSIS ==== ===== ๐น 1. What is the chain made of? ===== * Gold chain: โ Clear haram for men. โค Prophet ๏ทบ said: > "Gold and silk are permitted for the females of my Ummah, and forbidden for its males." > โ (Abu Dawood, Nasaโi โ Sahih) * Silver, leather, steel, beads: โ Not haram in itself. ===== ๐น 2. Quranic or Hadith Reference on Chains? ===== * There is NO verse in the Qurโan or sahih hadith that says men can't wear a chain in general. ===== ๐น 3. Tashabbuh (Imitating Women) ===== Imitating women is haram in Islam: : โThe Prophet cursed the men who imitate women and the women who imitate men.โ : โ (Bukhari) BUT: Scholars differ on what counts as imitation. ====== โณ๏ธ Your argument: ====== : "If a man wears a chain and no one thinks he's a woman, this shouldn't count as tashabbuh." This is very logical. Because tashabbuh must involve clear cultural resemblance. ๐ธ Examples: * Men wearing makeup or heels โ cultural imitation = clear tashabbuh. * Man with a short silver chain that looks masculine โ doesnโt resemble women. ๐ก Ibn Taymiyyah said: : โIf a thing is used by both men and women and is not exclusively for women, then it is not haram for men.โ ===== ๐น 4. Cultural Norms? ===== Many modern scholars say the ruling depends on ุนุฑู (custom). * If men wear chains and it's known in your culture that it's normal, then no tashabbuh. * If it's only women, and a man does it to be feminine, then itโs problematic. : ๐ค But in Egypt today (and globally), many men wear chains โ cross, leather, silver, etc. โ without being effeminate or imitating women.
