Maintaining good hygiene is essential for staying healthy and preventing the spread of illness. Unfortunately, many people make common hygiene mistakes that can increase their risk of getting sick. Here are some tips on how to avoid these mistakes: 1. Wash Your Hands Properly: Washing your hands is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. However, many people don't wash their hands properly. Be sure to use warm water and soap, and lather your hands for at least 20 seconds, covering all surfaces including between fingers, under nails, and up to the wrist. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel. 2. Use Hand Sanitizer When You Can't Wash: If you can't wash your hands, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Apply a small amount to your hands and rub them together until they're dry. 3. Don't Touch Your Face: Touching your face can transfer germs from your hands to your eyes, nose, and mouth, increasing your risk of getting sick. Try to avoid touching your face as much as possible. 4. Cover Your Mouth and Nose When You Cough or Sneeze: Coughing or sneezing into your hands can spread germs. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow instead. Dispose of the tissue immediately and wash your hands afterwards. 5. Keep Your Environment Clean: Germs can live on surfaces for hours or even days. Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, and countertops. 6. Wash Your Clothes and Bedding: Clothes and bedding can harbor germs and bacteria. Wash them regularly in hot water and detergent. 7. Practice Good Food Safety: Foodborne illness can be prevented by following safe food handling practices. Wash your hands before and after handling food, cook food to the proper temperature, and refrigerate leftovers promptly.
