MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is a popular emulator that allows users to play classic arcade games on their computer. While some people prefer to play games legitimately, others may want to use cheats to make the games easier or more interesting. Here are the steps to add cheats to MAME: 1. Download a cheat database: There are various websites that offer cheat databases for MAME. One of the most popular is the MAME Cheat Collection (MAMECHT). Download the cheat database that corresponds to the version of MAME you are using. 2. Extract the files: Extract the files from the downloaded archive to a folder on your computer. 3. Open the cheat file: Open the cheat file in a text editor like Notepad or Notepad++. The cheat file will have a .dat extension, and it contains the codes for the cheats. 4. Enable cheats in MAME: Open the MAME emulator and select "Options" from the top menu. Then select "Default Game Options" and scroll down until you see "Cheats." Check the box next to "Enable Cheats" to enable cheats in MAME. 5. Add cheats to MAME: In the MAME emulator, select the game you want to add cheats to and press F3 to open the service menu. Select "Cheats" and then select "Load Cheat File." Navigate to the folder where you extracted the cheat file and select the .dat file. 6. Activate cheats: Once the cheat file is loaded, you can activate the cheats in the game. To do this, press F3 again to open the service menu and select "Cheats." Then select the cheat you want to activate and press Enter. The cheat should now be active in the game. Note that some cheats may not work with certain versions of MAME or certain games. Additionally, some cheats may cause the game to behave unexpectedly or crash. Use cheats at your own risk and always make a backup of your game files before using cheats.
