Blanket binding is a simple way to finish the edges of a blanket or quilt. It not only adds durability and strength to the edges but also provides a decorative touch to the finished product. Here's how to apply blanket binding: Materials Needed: - Blanket or quilt to be bound - Blanket binding tape - Pins - Sewing machine - Scissors Instructions: 1. Choose the binding tape that is wide enough to cover the raw edge of your blanket or quilt. You can find a variety of binding tapes in fabric stores or online. 2. Lay your blanket or quilt flat on your work surface and trim the edges so that they are straight and even. If your blanket or quilt has a fringe, trim the fringe to the desired length. 3. Starting at one corner, place the binding tape right side down on the edge of the blanket, aligning the raw edges. Pin the binding tape in place along the entire edge. 4. When you reach a corner, fold the binding tape at a 45-degree angle to create a neat mitered corner. Fold the binding tape back down over the next edge and continue pinning in place. 5. Once you have pinned the binding tape all the way around the blanket or quilt, sew it in place. Starting at one end, sew along the entire length of the binding tape, using a straight stitch and sewing as close to the folded edge as possible. 6. When you reach a corner, stop sewing a few stitches before the edge, pivot the fabric and start sewing along the next edge. Repeat the process of creating a mitered corner as in step 4. 7. When you reach the end of the binding tape, trim the excess tape so that it overlaps the starting end by about 1 inch. Fold the end of the tape over the starting end, tucking the raw edge under. Pin in place and sew along the entire overlap to secure. 8. Once you have sewn the binding tape in place, remove the pins and admire your finished blanket or quilt. Note: If you prefer, you can also apply the binding tape by hand using a needle and thread. This will give you more control over the stitching and a more traditional look.
