Acclimating your betta to a new environment is an important step to ensure that your fish stays healthy and happy. Here's how to acclimate your betta: 1. Float the bag: After you have purchased your betta, keep the fish in the bag for at least 15 minutes, and ideally up to an hour, to help it adjust to the temperature of the water in the bag. Float the bag in the aquarium, and let it sit until the water in the bag is the same temperature as the aquarium water. 2. Mix the water: Once the water in the bag and aquarium is at the same temperature, add a small amount of water from the aquarium to the bag every 10 minutes. This will help the betta gradually adjust to the water conditions in the aquarium. Repeat this step until the bag is full and the betta has had time to adjust. 3. Release the betta: After the betta has been in the bag for at least 30 minutes, it is time to release it into the aquarium. Gently net the betta and release it into the aquarium. Try to avoid adding any of the water from the bag to the aquarium, as this can introduce unwanted bacteria or parasites. 4. Observe the betta: Once the betta is in the aquarium, observe its behavior for the first few hours to ensure that it is acclimating well. If the betta appears stressed or lethargic, it may be necessary to adjust the water conditions or add some hiding places or decorations to the aquarium to make it feel more secure. By taking the time to properly acclimate your betta, you can help ensure that your fish stays healthy and happy in its new environment.
